Here on Whidbey Island, we strive for meaningful experiences and are open to all kinds of new adventures. However, sometimes our past can stand in the way of that life. That’s why our founder, Lucas, an Iraq war veteran, makes serving our island’s community of veterans one of Island Herb’s top priorities.
Lucas went on his own journey after abstaining from synthetic drugs and found that cannabis was an excellent way to manage insomnia, stress, anxiety, and aches and pains. Lucas says, “I noticed how cannabis really helped me to calm down, to find some sort of peace of mind again. It helped me to sleep. It helped in all sorts of ways.” We want to spread the word about the benefits of cannabis to the world, but especially to veterans who may be looking for a way forward without heavy duty synthetic drugs.
At Island Herb, veterans can receive the therapeutic benefits of cannabis in a fun and unintimidating way. Located in Freeland, Island Herb is a state-endorsed medical cannabis dispensary. We have a friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable medically-licensed staff and we look forward to answering any questions as you start on this journey.
Even better, Veteran’s receive a 10% discount every day of the week. And on Senior Sundays, 55+ customers receive a 10% discount on their entire purchase. Being both 55+ and a veteran, nets you 20% off on Sundays.
What to Expect
Recreational cannabis is legal in the state of Washington and dispensaries, like Island Herb, feel like friendly, upscale pharmacies. Check out our reviews on Leafly and see a few photos of our space so that you can know what to expect when you walk in.
What to Bring
When you visit us, make sure to bring government identification and cash. Unfortunately, most cards are not accepted at dispensaries at this time so check out our menu to see how much money to bring. However, if you run into a must-have item, there is an ATM on site.
What to Know
There are many strains of cannabis, which generally fall into four categories: Indica, Sativa, Hybrid, and High Cannabidiol (CBD). Indica is a whole body relaxing high often used for pain. Sativa is an energizing, focused head high, while Hybrid is a mix of both Indica and Sativa, with a calming, focused high. Strains high in CBD tend to have calming, anti-inflammatory, and pain relieving effects among other potential uses. Notably, CBD itself is non-psychoactive meaning it does not get you “high” in the traditional sense. Strains and products high in CBD and low in THC may be a useful alternative for those seeking certain benefits without an altered state of mind. For more detailed information on specific strains there are a variety of great resources online like Leafly.
